About this project

This website shares what local health data and Saginaw County residents say about health in our community. We explain it in plain language, without the jargon. We also point you to local places that can help.

Our health priorities

This site focuses on two health priorities for Saginaw County:

  • Mental health and substance use
  • Employment: jobs, income, and how they affect health

How we know these matter

These priorities come from the 2023-2026 Saginaw County Community Health Assessment. It looked at health numbers that were already collected, and it asked residents directly what they see and need (BWell Saginaw Partner Coalition, 2023).

1,577

community surveys filled out by residents

6

community conversations where people talked about health in their neighborhoods

Plus existing health data from sources like the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), a large health survey of adults, and the Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth (MiPHY), a health survey of Michigan students.

(BWell Saginaw Partner Coalition, 2023)

Jobs, mental health, and substance use affect each other. Losing a job or struggling with money can increase stress and unhealthy coping, and mental health or substance use challenges can make it harder to find and keep work.
